Reporting acc. to Sec. 49

The so-called press review paragraph within the German Copyright Act, known as Section 49 of the UrhG (§ 49 UrhG), permits articles from newspapers which focus on current political, economic or religious events to be digitised and shared internally. In cooperation with VG Wort, you can report such articles via PMG. The stipulations within Section 49 of the UrhG apply, in connection with the latest laws. The respective article price depends on the number of readers and whether they are so-called regular users or occasional users. 

Automated reporting

Here is where you can get a 90-day overview of your automated purchases of Section 49 rights and start a new automated purchase of Section 49 rights.  

The overview always includes all the uploads of rights purchases – as well as those which were subsequently cancelled. 

The functionality of the automated reporting is in line with the functionality of the automated rights purchase. For assistance in using this function, please see the Support article “Automated rights purchasing”. 

The important difference is that you report at this point the article according to Section 49 of the German Copyright Act. 

Individual reporting

Here is where you can purchase licensing rights for individual articles according to Section 49 of the UrhG which are not available in digital form in the PMG press database. 

You can choose to view the purchases made here in your purchasing history overview.

The functionality of the individual reporting is in line with the functionality of the PMG rights purchasing option for single rights. For assistance in using this function, please see the Support article “Licensing of single rights”. 

The important difference is that you report at this point the article according to Section 49 of the German Copyright Act.
