PMG rights purchasing allows you to license articles which you have not purchases via PMG MediaMonitor or its article search function.
On the page “Automated rights purchasing” is where you get an overview of your automated rights purchases made in the last 90 days. You can also start the process of a new automated rights purchase or individual licensing here.
Automated rights purchasing
With the automated rights purchasing option, you can license articles by uploading a CSV file. This kind of licensing is particularly suited for purchasing PMG rights for a large number of articles.
If you need just a few individual licences, please use the “Licensing of single rights” option.
Downloading articles in the CSV format
Download the sample file in the CSV format. Open the file using a program for tabular calculations, e.g. Microsoft Excel. Add a line to the table for each article that you would like to purchase. Either delete or write over the sample lines, but do not change or delete the first line with the column titles, as this line is not calculated in the licensing process.
- Media: Enter the name of the media in which the article appears. You can find a list of all names in the Media list.
- Date: Enter the date on which the article was published, in the format dd.mm.yyyy (e.g. 01.01.2025).
- Author: Enter the name or the initials of the author, if provided in a byline.
- Photo: Enter “Yes” if you would like to license photo rights.
- Headline: Enter the headline of the article.
- Full page: Enter “Yes” if you want to license rights for the full page on which the article appears.
Save the file under a new name in the CSV format.
Uploading CSV files
Click on “Select file” and choose the CSV file you created for uploading. The file will then be checked for errors. If there are any errors, you will receive a notification. Please correct these and upload the entire file again.
Click on “Buy now” to start the licensing process.
Processing CSV files
After clicking on “Buy now”, the file will be processed. If no errors occur during processing, a new entry for your successful licensing will appear in the list of your automated rights purchases from the last 90 days. If errors occur but some lines can be processed successfully, an entry will also be created in the list for the successfully processed lines.
If individual lines of your CSV file cannot be processed, an error will be generated. Download this error by clicking on “Errors” and correct the faulty entries. Upload the corrected file. Now the previously faulty entries will also be licensed.
Purchase confirmations and warnings
If you need a purchase confirmation for your licensing, you can download it by clicking on “Purchase confirmation”.
If warnings are available for the licensed articles, you can download an overview of these as a CSV file. Warnings show that an entry recorded in the table could be licensed, but there are important notes regarding the use of the licence. Warnings often occur when table cells are not filled out correctly or clearly.
